1982d WILLIAMS-COSWORTH 08 F1 Cover
signed RAUL BOESEL
£10.00

1982 should have been Didier Pironi's but having qualified on Pole Position for the German GP at Hockenheim, he crashed in practice and missed the last 5 races of the season. The final race decided the Drivers' Championship between Keke Rosberg on 42 points and John Watson who had scored 33; although Watson finished ahead of Rosberg he had to be content with equal second in the championship, with Pironi.

The Constructors' Championship was equally tight with Patrick Tambay, Gilles Villeneuve and Mario Andretti all scoring points to add to Pironi's to help Ferrari with the 126C2 to the title. McLaren came a close second with the MP4 & MP4Bs of Watson and Niki Lauda and the Renault RE30Bs of Alain Prost and Rene Arnoux were third. The Renaults had led for almost half the laps during the season but suffered from reliability problems.

Ross Wardles artwork depicts Keke Rosberg's Williams-Cosworth 08 leading the Swiss GP at Dijon-Prenois (in France), followed Alain Prost's Renault RE30B and Niki Lauda driving a McLaren-Cosworth MP4B.

Brazilian driver, RAUL BOESEL has signed the extra special; he started racing go-karts at the age of 16 and became Brazilian champion in 1975; still in his homeland, he took up Stock Car racing for 1978 and 79. He came to England in 1980 to compete in Formula Ford, finishing runner-up in both championships with a total of 8 wins.

For 1981 he progressed to British F3, won 3 races for Murray Taylor Racing and finished third in the championship. In 1982 he raced F1 for March, gaining places in 4 of his 10 races. His 1983 performance with Ligier was improved with 6 places out of 13 races. He became the first Brazilian to win the South American F2 Championship in 1984. He joined Dick Simon Racing for the IndyCar series in 1985 and won the 'Most Improved Driver Award' in 1986.

He became World Sports Car Champion with TWR Jaguar in 1987, winning 5 races. Winning the Daytona 24-hour race for Jaguar was the highlight of his 1988 season. For 1989/90 he returned to single seaters, contesting IndyCar but switched back to TWR Jaguar sports cars for 1991, winning the Miami GP and coming second at Le Mans.

From 1992-2000, he raced in IndyCar racing for Dick Simon, Rahal-Hogan, Team Green, Team Kool, All American Racers, Transworld and McCormack Motorsports, achieving several pole positions and podium placings.
